Bosses running Stoke-on-Trent’s main shopping centre are ‘in discussion with a number of retailers’ about filling its empty units. The Potteries Centre has made the comment following the closure of its latest store.
Aroma Obsession closed its doors for good at The Potteries Centre on Saturday, June 22 after less than 18 months in Hanley. It blamed low footfall for the decision.
The latest closure blow comes as Chit Chat 4U All is next month opening a diner and retro gaming centre opposite WHSmith.

A Potteries Centre spokesman said: “We are disappointed to hear that Aroma Obsession at The Potteries Centre has closed down. This is a commercial decision taken by Aroma Obsession and we wish their staff well.
“We are always working hard to refresh our store line-up with new and exciting retailers to give our visitors the best possible shopping experience. We are currently in discussion with a number of retailers who are keen to have a store in our centre. We’ll be in a position to announce new brands soon.”
StokeonTrentLive readers are sad to learn of the closure of yet another store inside The Potteries Centre.
Wayne Gratton said: “The powers-that-be need to address the absolute mess and ghost town Hanley has become as a matter of urgency. It’s a retail and commercial centre to a city of over 250,000 people and should be busy and a place where people want to go again. If you took Primark out of Hanley then the last one out might as well as turn out the lights.”
Lorraine Bennett said: “I want Hanley to go back to the way it was – full of shops and people.”
Steph Mountford said: “Hanley is just a town full of homeless, druggies, and scummy people shouting and bawling. It’s scary, uncomfortable and not much of an advert for anyone visiting the area. I will carry on shopping further afield and spend my hard-earned cash elsewhere with decent stores.”
But other readers provide hope for Hanley and The Potteries Centre.
Ben Goodfellow said: “I was in the shopping centre on Thursday and could not believe how busy the ground floor and outside was.”
