The One Show has live TV fails during Strictly announcement

Strictly Come Dancing cast spoilers follow.

The One Show had technical problems during its big Strictly Come Dancing announcement.

Monday night’s show featured Alex Jones, Lauren Laverne, and roving reporter Kevin Duala revealing the final three Strictly Come Dancing celebrities for the new season.

The episode got off to a shaky start when Strictly newcomer Nick Knowles nearly tripped as he walked out to the set, with Alex and Lauren expressing shock at a near-live TV injury.

“See I knew this was going to go wrong,” Nick quipped as he joined The One Show sofa. “I’ve turned an ankle and I’ve only just started!”

Nick laughed off the perilous moment to discuss his reasons for joining Strictly, while ‘The Magic Man’ Paul Merson’s reveal as the penultimate contestant came off without a hitch.

Unfortunately, when The One Show went to Kevin Duala to interview the final contestant — Olympian Sam Quek — in Wirral, there were significant sound problems.

Kevin tried to carry on interviewing Sam about her reasons for being on Strictly, but The One Show eventually cut back to the studio since the segment was barely audible.

“Everyone’s so excited, the sound has gone mad. But we got the gist,” Alex admitted, with Lauren quipping: “It was a little bit Jimi Hendrix in places!’

Nick joked that the on-location interview was like listening to “the whole thing through a kazoo”.

Let’s hope the Strictly live shows go a bit more smoothly for this new trio!

The final three Strictly Come Dancing celebrities join a line-up that also includes TOWIE’s Pete Wicks, former Love Island star Tasha Ghouri, Go Compare man Wynne Evans, pop legend Toyah Willcox, JLS boyband star JB Gill, comedian Chris McCausland and Morning Live‘s Dr Punam Krishan.

The One Show airs on weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
