The Night Caller star Robert Glenister’s famous family including actor brother

Must read

Robert Glenister is best known for his role as Ash Morgan in BBC con artist drama Hustle, in which he appeared in every episode. But he’s not the only member of his family to star in hard-hitting dramas.

The TV star’s new thriller The Night Caller is set to premiere this weekend. The new Liverpool-set Channel 5 thriller is described as a “claustrophobic tale” that focuses on “the power of influence those with the loudest voice have over the most vulnerable people”.

The new four-part drama will premiere at 9pm tonight (July 7) and will air on consecutive nights through to Wednesday (July 10). Robert Glenister plays lonely cabbie Tony, who works nights since losing his teaching job – and his marriage.

His only attachments are to café worker Rosa (Casualty’s Suzanne Packer) and a radio DJ he listens to called Lawrence (Gotham’s Sean Pertwee).

Robert also plays the role of DI Kevin Salisbury in the BBC‘s Sherwood, which is due to return for a second season later this year. However, he isn’t the only star in his family.

Robert’s famous brother, Phillip Glenister, and father

His brother, Philip Glenister is a much-loved actor, best known for his role as DCI Gene Hunt in BBC‘s Life on Mars and its sequel Ashes to Ashes. This year he has made a return to TV screens as he has taken on the role of Jack Radcliffe in ITV’s After The Flood.

The mystery thriller, which first aired in January 2024, explores the aftermath of a natural disaster. Following the discovery of a body, police officer Joanna Marshall (Sophie Rundle) suspects there may be more to it than tragic misfortune.

Phillip’s wife is also somewhat famous. He met Beth Goddard in 1997 before they married in 2006. The pair have two daughters, Millie and Charlotte.

Beth started her career in the 1990s, where she made appearances in hits like The Bill (1991-1993), Cracker (1994) and A Touch of Frost (1999-2000).

Most recently, she’s starred alongside Martin Clunes in both Doc Martin (2022) and crime drama Manhunt (2021).

Robert and Philip aren’t the only famous faces in their family – their father John is a retired television director. John Glenister, 91, had a long career in TV spanning from the 1960s to the eve of the millennium.

The Night Caller will premiere on Channel 5 this Sunday (July 5) at 9pm.
