The first dedicated teaser trailer for The Last of Us season two has been released by HBO, along with a trio of posters (below).
The new footage, set to the haunting strains of “Future Days” by Pearl Jam, continues the story of apocalypse survivors Joel (Pedro Pascal), Ellie (Bella Ramsey), and Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna). It also introduces new cast members, which overall include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Catherine O’Hara also guest stars this season.
The official description: “After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
The 2023 debut season of The Last of Us was HBO’s most-watched first season series ever. The new season will debut sometime next year. The season was nominated for eight Emmys, including for Pascal and Ramsey’s performances, and for best drama series.
The release timing coincides with “The Last of Us Day,” September 26, which is the day the cordyceps virus outbreak occurred in the original The Last of Us videogame by Naughty Dog.
The Last of Us is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and is also executive produced by Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells.
