The Concord Open Beta Bombed On Steam

Must read

Concord is in the midst of holding its open Beta on Steam, and the numbers, to be honest, haven’t been good.

According to SteamDB, the beta for Concord has a peak player count of just 2,388 players, which happened on Thursday, July 18. Since then, the numbers have continued to drop from an already disappointing level. July 19th saw a max of just 1,654 players; July 20th, 1447; and July 21st, 1,117 players.

Again, this was a completely free and open beta over a weekend for a game that PlayStation has been targeting as its big hero shooter. If the numbers were that low when anyone could play, it’s hard to imagine what they’ll be when the game fully launches at its $40 base price.

Immediately after the full reveal of the game back in June, players seemed turned off by the game for a number of reasons. One of the big reasons being the seemingly bait and switch of a CGI trailer that showed an adventure only to be shown 5v5 FPS gameplay.

Based on the Beta numbers, it seems like the negative sentiment hasn’t change over the last month or so.

We don’t have the numbers publicly available for how the game has performed on PlayStation. Neither Sony nor developer Firewalk have responded to requests for comment on the state of the game based on the early Beta returns.

Concord is currently scheduled to release August 23 for PC and PlayStation 5.
