There was a time, not long ago, when clothes for a certain type of woman revolved around one specific shape of dress. If you can picture the silhouette in question — think a fitted smocked top, blouson sleeves and a flared skirt — you’ll also know that it had to be floral. It was also popular with smiley TV presenters, who clung to their floral frocks in an attempt to keep their style credibility in check.
