Name escapes us for the moment. But it’s good. As is this Q-tailored V8 DB12
Published: 14 Oct 2024
Aston Martin has revealed a special version of its rather gorgeous DB12, and it is thus: behold, the ‘Goldfinger Edition’, which celebrates 60 years since an Aston Martin DB5 made its big screen debut in… now, what’s that filmed called again? Mary Poppins? No. Not that.
While the name escapes us for the moment, the Aston in it doesn’t, because it was a classic, whose DNA now resides in the 4.0-litre V8 super GT you see before you. This DB12’s been to Q’s finishing school, which is why it looks rather special.

So where the original 1964 DB5 from – wanna say My Fair Lady? No, not that either – That Film featured loads of gadgets, this one instead pays homage via the now famous ‘Silver Birch’ colourway, 21in multi-spoke alloys finished in a diamond treatment, black calipers, gold side strakes and a special treatment for the Aston logo.
The leather sports seats inside the DB12 Goldfinger have been treated to a – wait! It’s The Pink Panther! No, that doesn’t seem right – a ‘Prince of Wales’ check perforation pattern, which gives a subtle nod to the main character from this mystery movie.
Naturally, what with it being called the Goldfinger Edition, there are actual 18k gold-plated interior accents on the drive mode dial, roller controls, and gear selector. Gold fibres were also weaved into the carbon fibre.
Special mention goes to the eight of hearts embroidered into the sun visors, a reference to a scene in – that’s it, A Hard Day’s Night! Oh, no that’s not right either – well, that film. Buyers also get a custom car cover, a presentation box for the key, and a bottle of 2007 Bollinger with four exclusive glasses, among other luxurious gifts.

Nothing’s been touched on the V8 powering the DB12, so there’s the not-at-all regular 671bhp and 590lb ft of torque that appears in non-Goldfinger cars. This is enough, because it allows 0-60mph in just 3.6s and a 202mph top speed. Fair bit more than the DB5 in… ah, can’t think of it now.
Aston’s only building 60 versions of this Goldfinger DB12. “It is an incredible occasion to be able to recognise six decades of this partnership with an extraordinary special edition, and pay homage to the very first – and perhaps most famous Aston Martin Bond car,” said Aston brand and commercial boss Marco Mattiaci.
“Incorporating these subtle but impactful touches, developed by our own ‘Q’ department has created a very unique offering; one that will be adored by Bond fans across the world.”
Of course! The film’s From Russia With Love! Phew, got there in the end.
