We love a good cold open. Terrifier 3 provides one so disturbingly sick and twisted that folks are allegedly walking out of the first UK screenings. Having seen the film at the opening night of Fantastic Fest, we at FANGORIA can confirm it is brutal as hell and that cold open goes hard right out of the gate. After the first details about the third installment of Damien Leone’s Terrifier trilogy initially dropped, folks had questions, and Leone answers some of those queries right up front in the first ten minutes.
While we won’t spoil the grisly delights in store for you, a recent press release confirmed that Terrifier 3‘s London premiere racked up a grand total of 11 walkouts, nine during the opening scene, and one fan confirmed to have puked. Luckily, viewers were provided with barf bags.
The grandmaster of gore Leone himself had this to say of the queasy reaction:
“Typically people walk out of a movie because it sucks. When someone walks out of a Terrifier film, it’s a testament to the special makeup fx team. I guess we’ve done our job!”
Famously, Terrifier 2 had a similar reaction, with one fan allegedly needing medical attention, and the outrage proved immeasurably successful, as the sequel racked up an insane $10.1 million box office off a $250,000 budget.
In case you’ve missed the Terrifier 3 hype, this time around, Leone and Co. are giving us a Christmas slasher, with David Howard Thornton returning as the maniacal Art the Clown. FANGORIA Chainsaw Award-winning final girl Lauren LaVera returns as Sienna, with Samantha Scaffadi as Victoria Heyes and Elliot Fullam also returning as Sienna’s little brother Jonathan.
After surviving Art the Clown’s Halloween massacre, Sienna and her brother are struggling to rebuild their shattered lives. As the holiday season approaches, they try to embrace the Christmas spirit and leave the horrors of the past behind. But just when they think they’re safe, Art the Clown returns, determined to turn their holiday cheer into a new nightmare. The festive season quickly unravels as Art unleashes his twisted brand of terror, proving that no holiday is safe.
Terrifier 3 releases wide on October 11. Get those barf bags ready and don’t forget you can get more Terrifier 3 in the upcoming issue of FANGORIA.
