Teenage boy dies in hit-and-run incident in Co Kildare

A 16-year-old boy has died in a hit-and-run incident in Co Kildare.

The collision, which involved a vehicle and a pedestrian, occurred on the R403 in Blackwood near Robertstown at around 12.30am.

The vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

The teenager was fatally injured as a result of the crash. His body has been removed to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital.

The R403 in Blackwood is currently closed (between Graiges Cross and Dagwelds Cross) pending a forensic examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Blackwood and Robertstown at the time of the incident and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) to contact them.
