Tata Elxsi has announced it will create a wave of high-value technology and engineering jobs, reinforcing the group’s commitment to the West Midlands.

The design and technology services provider is bolstering operations at its Coventry-based design hub, the global Centre of Excellence for Cybersecurity and AI.

Since establishing its design hub in September 2022, Tata Elxsi has expanded its presence in Coventry, with over 100 engineering positions already recruited from West Midlands institutions including the University of Warwick, the University of Birmingham and the University of Coventry.

It plans to recruit for roles over the next three years, committing to invest in the West Midlands, which represents its largest presence outside of India.

Other expansion plans are underway across the UK, with proposals to establish a network transformation lab in the UK, to use AI to power zero-touch automation of planning, deploying, and managing networks, applications, and services.

“By collaborating with industry leaders and academic institutions, we are not only nurturing the next generation of design and engineering talent, but also contributing to the UK’s leadership in automotive engineering and cybersecurity. We look forward to furthering our business expansion and technological advancements in the region.”

Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, said: “Tata Elxsi is pioneering industry-defining, future technologies right here in the West Midlands, through its Global Centre of Excellence. The firm’s continued investment in Coventry exemplifies the strength of our innovation ecosystem, and in particular, the region’s tech-proficient talent pool.

“It is investment like this which can deliver the high-skilled, well-paid engineering jobs we need for our young people and I am pleased the company is recruiting directly from the region’s universities across Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire.

“I look forward to supporting the business’ continued growth in the West Midlands over the coming years.”

Cllr Jim O’Boyle, cabinet member for jobs, regeneration and climate change at Coventry City Council, said, “Tata Elxsi is fast establishing and growing its base right here in Coventry. And we are the perfect location for this kind of pioneering sector – with our excellent location and rich supply of graduate engineers from our two universities. I look forward to hearing what’s next for this innovative company.”
