Swindon burst water main causing tailbacks

Must read

A main road has partially collapsed after a burst water main.

Engineers are working to repair a pipe on Thamesdown Drive in Swindon, Wiltshire.

Wiltshire Police’s neighbourhood policing team in Swindon warned pedestrians not to travel to the area.

Thames Water apologised for the disruption and confirmed engineers had isolated the pipe and would now be turning their attention to repairs which may be “extensive”.

“Our team are currently repairing the burst water pipe on Thamesdown Drive,” the company said.

“Everyone whose water supply was affected, should have their water back.

“We’re sorry for traffic disruption in the area, and appreciate your patience whilst we fix this.”

Swindon Borough Council are also expected to attend the scene.

Thamesdown Drive is shut at the Lady Lane/Blunsdon Arms junction eastbound (towards Turnpike) and traffic is being diverted into Lady Lane.

The road is closed westbound at Elstree Way and cars are being diverted through Abbey Meads.

HGVs will be turned around and made to go in the opposite direction, police said.
