Embark Studios has somehow managed to bring its high-action, destruction-filled FPS game The Finals to PlayStation 4. Announced alongside the Season 5 reveal, Embark has surprisingly crammed its intensive, physics-filled shooter onto the decade-old Sony console.

The Finals PS4 port confirmed

Released in 2023, almost exactly a year ago, The Finals has been praised for its next-generation destruction tech that just wasn’t possible on last-gen machines. Nevertheless, Embark has done what many believed impossible and they’re bringing the game to Sony’s 2013 console.

Announced in the blog post for the new Season 5 content, Embark hid the game’s PS4 release at the end of its reveal.

“Last but not least, we are launching on PlayStation 4,” the announcement reads. “You will be able to compete in the World’s greatest game show on more platforms than ever before!”

Furthermore, the game is set to get new ways to play on the current generation of consoles. Xbox Series X, Series S, PS5 and the new PS5 Pro will all see new graphics modes. The Season 5 update will allow gamers to experience the game’s action in 120Hz, although its not clear how often it’ll hit that framerate target.

Even more interesting is the performance of the new PS4 port. At the time of writing, Embark Studios has not revealed the framerate and resolution target of The Finals PS4, but we would expect heavy compromises to be made.

Nevertheless, with massive next-gen only games like The Finals and Star Wars Jedi Survivor somehow being squeezed onto the last generation of consoles, there is a sense that the now decade-old hardware is still not tapped out.

For now, The Finals isn’t available on Xbox One, but perhaps we could even see the game make its way to Microsoft’s aging platform as well? With the new PS4 port, anything is possible.
