Strictly’s Wynne Evans and Katya shut down fans over ‘inappropriate’ moment

Must read

The Welsh opera singer, 52, and the Russian pro dancer, 35, wowed judges this week on the BBC dance competition when they received their highest score yet after they performed the tango to Money, Money, Money by ABBA.

But things took an unexpected turn when the dancing duo’s bizarre antics in the green room sparked concern from fans.

Eagle-eyed viewers flooded to social media after spotting the pair’s unusual interactions in the background of all the Strictly chaos, with many convinced there was some sort of bad blood between them.

It began when Wynne stood behind Katya with a supportive arm around her waist while Claudia Winkleman interviewed Pete Wicks about his jazzy quickstep.

The former Strictly champ beamed beside her co-star, but subtly moved the singer’s hand back to her hip after it had drifted closer to her midriff.

Later on in the show, viewers noticed Wynne’s failed attempt to get a high-five from Katya. The award-winning dancer turned her back to him and pulled a rather unimpressed face in the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment.

She then quickly turned to face the camera with a huge grin on her face as if nothing had happened.

It didn’t take long before fans flooded to X – formerly known to Twitter – to share their concerns online.

Dedicated viewers soon started speculating that there was conflict between the pair, with some saying the moment was “inappropriate”. Others even urged the BBC to investigate the footage.

But after the show aired, Wynne and Katya took to Instagram to clear the air with fans before things escalated any further. In a clip shared on Instagram, the pair could be seen still in their show costumes as they addressed the concerns online.

Katya began: “Hi everyone. It’s Wynne and Katya here. We just wanted to say we were just messing around in the Claudatorium on Saturday night and wanted to say sorry, it was a silly joke.”

Wynne chimed in with: “Yes, sorry” before they both visibly cringed backstage. Wynne added in the caption: “Apologies for this tonight we were just messing around. We really are amazing friends.

“The high 5’s is a running joke,” he insisted. “Have a great evening.” Fans immediately flooded to the comments to share their support online.

One user reassured him: “You did nothing wrong!! [heart-eyes emoji]” as another agreed: “Glad you’ve come out straight away to get rid of any nonsense” Loved your dance tonight [heart emoji]”.

A third chimed in with: “Honestly devastated that you both feel you have to apologise. Neither of you have done anything wrong at all. My absolute favourites from week one and your dance tonight was fantastic [smiling emoji].”

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays from 6.20pm on BBC One or catch up on BBC iPlayer.
