Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden has been replaced this week after suffering a ‘medical emergency’ following the live show on Saturday night.
The pro dancer, 34, who made an emotional return back to our screens this season following a two-year hiatus due to her battle with cancer, ‘collapsed backstage’ and had to be rushed to hospital.
Strictly bosses have since confirmed that pro dancer Lauren Oakley will step in as Amy’s replacement and Lauren offered Amy a sweet promise as she stepped into her shoes.
Lauren wrote: ‘Sending you so much love and well wishes [Amy Dowden] hope you’re back on the dance floor as soon as possible!
‘I will look after [JB Gill] for you this week, I hope we make you proud!’
Meanwhile, a BBC spokesperson offered an update on Amy’s condition and said that she hoped she would be back on the show very soon, saying: ‘Amy Dowden MBE is doing much better and the Strictly family send her love and wish her well. Â
‘She is delighted that fellow Professional Dancer, Lauren Oakley, is able to step in for rehearsals and to perform in Saturday’s show for JB Gill’s Couple’s Choice dance. We are all hopeful that Amy will be back to dance with JB next week.’
Just moments before her health scare, Amy and her celebrity partner, JLS star JB Gill performed the Foxtrot to Dancing In The Moonlight, dressed as Dorothy and the Scarecrow, and were placed fifth on the Strictly leaderboard with a score of 32.
She was forced to miss the results show but thankfully Amy and JB survived the vote and made it to another week.
At the time Amy’s spokesperson said the ambulance was called as a ‘precaution’ and insisted she was ‘feeling much better’.
Amy’s spokesperson said in a statement to MailOnline: ‘Amy was feeling unwell and so an ambulance was called as a precaution.
‘She is feeling much better and would like to thank the Strictly family for their love and concern. We request Amy’s privacy in matters of health is kindly respected.’
Meanwhile the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed the incident, saying: ‘We were called just after 9pm on Saturday to attend a medical emergency at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood.
‘An ambulance was sent to the scene. One patient, an adult female, was transported to Barnet Hospital for further care.’
Amy is currently in remission after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023 which resulted in her undergoing a mastectomy, losing her hair and developing life-threatening sepsis.
We hope to see you back dancing very soon, Amy!
