He said that his tough experience – including some harsh feedback – had coloured his daughter’s view of the show and one judge in particular.

The stand-up told Ranvir that Sophie ‘threw things at the telly when Craig [Revel Horwood] was on’ before revealing she calls the fearsome Strictly judge ‘a bum’.

He added: ‘Even after the final when he gave us a ten and said something nice she couldn’t forgive the two eights.’

Ranvir laughed and said: ‘I love her, that’s the kind of loyalty you want from your family.’

Chris also discussed how he was still feeling very worn down by the show after it took its toll on him.

The stand-up teared up as he said: ‘It’s been an emotional Saturday night and I’m still feeling worn down by it.

‘Three and half months – it’s relentless. Physically, mentally, it takes its toll. This show wears you down physically and mentally until it pokes you with a stick and you cry in front of people.’

Chris then added that his experience heavily affected how his daughter watched the show, revealing that his worry fed into hers.

‘She fed off my anxiety because I was terrified and I couldn’t really hide it that well and she was nervous for me.

‘And the first show Cha Cha Cha she was so nervous and as soon as we started dancing down the dancefloor she burst out crying, but she got better throughout the series and was able to enjoy it.

The comedian also confessed he had never expected to do so well in the hit BBC show and had hoped by just making an appearance he could change peoples’ perceptions of disability.

He said: ‘I just wanted to go into this and represent people and the thing that was panicking me was the dancing because I thought it could be disappointing, but I thought in every other way I could represent.

‘I could be positive and funny and if I could get to the fifth show then it would challenge expectations  – so this is bananas.’

The star also joked that he hadn’t thought he would win and as a result only re-scheduled his sold-out tour Yonks to January, giving the star just a few weeks off.

Chris’ stand-up roadshow will also mean he misses out on performing on the Strictly Tour and when asked by Ranvir why he hadn’t pushed the rescheduled dates even further back, the star replied: ‘We had to move the tour to accommodate Strictly and it wasn’t really a consideration at the time.

‘I don’t think anyone thought I was going to be any good and I didn’t think I’d be going off the back of Strictly.

‘I thought I’d be going off the back of two months off!’

Chris finished the interview by telling Ranvir that he hoped his time on the show had changed peoples’ opinions, explaining: ‘I hope people realise people need opportunities.

‘And need to have higher expectations of each other and ourselves and to be kinder to each other and ourselves, because more is possible.’

The comedian and his pro partner Dianne Buswell were crowned 2024’s champions after he made history as the show’s first ever blind contestant.

Chris pipped fellow finalists Tasha Ghouri, JB Gill and Sarah Hadland to the post in the ‘best ever’ final on Saturday, with his cheeky wit and inspiring story helping to save the show following a year of scandals.

The final, which was the highest-scoring ever, saw all the couples each perform three dances for the judges before hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced Chris as the winner of the much sought-after Glitterball trophy.

The funnyman broke down in tears as he was embraced by his fellow celebs before throwing Dianne triumphantly over his shoulder while the audience went wild.

Asked how the moment felt by Tess and Claudia, Chris said: ‘It’s astonishing, I don’t know what to say. I honestly thought I was going to go out in the first week or two and I know nobody went out in the first week, but I still thought I could.

‘We’ve just lasted and lasted and [Dianne] has got so much out of me and she deserves [the trophy] so much’ as he went on to gush over her ‘positivity’ and ‘belief’.

He then joked: ‘Unless she changes her number she’s stuck with me. This is for [Dianne] and everyone out there, it just shows that with the opportunity and support anything is possible!’.

Chris gained his first perfect score of 40 points for a waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone by Gerry and the Pacemakers, which was his final dance of the series and left the judges and viewers in tears.

His second routine was a medley of dance styles to You Get What You Give by New Radicals and he recreated his viral “blackout” moment for the first dance.

Chris and Dianne also danced to their own choice of tune – Instant Karma! (We All Shine On) by John Lennon.

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1 from 9am and is available to stream on ITVX.
