Must read

Stranger Things has celebrated being halfway through filming with a behind-the-scenes video introducing three new cast members.

The Netflix hit show created by the Duffer Brothers will bow out with its fifth and final chapter, with Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly and Alex Breaux joining the ensemble in time for Hawkins’ ultimate showdown.

“To celebrate the halfway mark of filming Stranger Things 5 — and 8 years of Stranger Things! — we have a very special look at the making of the final season,” Netflix announced on Twitter/X today (July 15).

In the clip, the cast reminisce on their experiences, looking back on when the series debuted on the streamer 8 years ago on July 15, 2016.

“So I started when I was ten, I’m now turning 20 years old,” Eleven actress Millie Bobby Brown said. “It feels very weird.”

“We’re just kind of savouring every single moment,” Nancy actor Natalia Dyer said.

Expectations are at an all-time high, as confirmed by Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays villain Vecna.

“Season 4 was big. Season 5 definitely feels bigger,” he said.

Earlier this month, co-creator Ross Duffer shared a photo of the cast posing together on the sound stage, explaining they were on “week 24” and celebrating being halfway through production.

This could mean that the final season may land on Netflix in early 2025, as star Maya Hawke reminded fans to brace themselves for movie-length episodes, much like season 4.

“It takes a long time to write each season, and it takes a long time to shoot them,” she told Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed podcast. “We’re basically making eight movies. The episodes are very long.”

Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are streaming on Netflix. A fifth and final season is in production. Stranger Things: The First Shadow is now booking until February 2025 at the Phoenix Theatre in London. Tickets are available now.
