One of Cornwall’s largest employers has dozens of jobs up for grabs right now. Cornwall Council, which delivers a range of services across the county, is recruiting workers in a number of departments, from administration work to education and support work.
According to the local authority’s own stats, it employs about 5,000 either directly or through its wholly-owned company Corserv which includes Cormac. So, if you’re interested in working at the council, there are plenty of opportunities to get your foot in the door.

Community nurse
Location: Redruth
Description: In this role, you will take delegated work and be responsible for your own caseload, having a degree of autonomy over your diary and workload planning. You will also be providing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the Healthy Child Programme.

School nurse
Location: Truro
Description: The council is aiming for each secondary school to have a named school nurse who will work alongside a mix skilled health team to cover surrounding primary schools. In this role, you will be responsible for the delivery of the healthy child programme to provide evidence-based family centred public health services to achieve the service vision and meeting the needs of communities, families and children and young people.
Pay: £35,392 – £42,618
Family support worker
Location: Liskeard
Description: As part of this role, you will work under the direction of the early help co-ordinator completing early help assessments and early help plans that will ensure effective co-ordination of support for children, young people and their families, linking to family hubs and other services where appropriate.
Finance assessment officer
Location: Truro
Description: The team is responsible for undertaking financial assessments, by phone and in person, for individuals receiving care at home or residential services. The role entails a high level of contact with service users both by telephone and email. You will be responsible for liaising directly with service users and their families to conduct financial assessments ensuring they are completed fairly, consistently and promptly. You will also offer funding and welfare benefit advice and liaise with internal and external stakeholders including care providers and operational teams.
Pay: £24,482 – £29,591

Turnaround support worker
Location: Bodmin
Description: The Turnaround Programme works with children on the cusp of the youth justice system and within existing early intervention frameworks. The team is looking for three dynamic individuals who will bring knowledge and understanding of holistic assessments to ensure they put the right intervention in place for children and families. You will have a good understanding of the local early help offer and the support available to children and families in third sector and voluntary community organisations.
Pay: £24,482 – £29,591
Community stop smoking practitioner
Location: Truro
Description: This role will require you to work within the local community, offering clients from across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly face to face and when necessary virtual support (including email, text video calls and social media) providing clients with the tools they need to achieve a successful quit smoking attempt.
Pay: £29,592 – £36,655
