Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters and Erin Doherty are fronting a splashy one-shot Netflix series from the creators of Boiling Point and co-produced by Brad Pitt‘s Plan B Entertainment.
The Irishman star Graham is also creating and writing Adolescence with Jack Thorne, while Philip Barantini is directing.
Unveiled at a Netflix UK showcase earlier this year, Adolescence tells the story of how a family’s world is turned upside down when 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) is arrested and charged with the murder of a teenage girl who goes to his school. Graham will play Jamie’s father and ‘appropriate adult’, Eddie Miller. Walters stars as Detective Inspector Bascombe, and Doherty is Briony Ariston, the clinical psychologist assigned to Jamie’s case.
Adolescence is currently filming in the UK. As with the Boiling Point movie and TV series, each episode is filmed in one unflinching continuous shot, holding focus on the main characters and the drama as it unfolds in real time.
The show will bring together stars of two of Netflix’s biggest hits, Walters, who played Dushane Hill in Top Boy, and Doherty, who was Princess Anne in Seasons 3 and 4 of The Crown.
Plan B is producing with Warp Films, Matriarch Productions, One Shoe Films and It’s All Made Up. EPs are Mark Herbert, Emily Feller, Graham, Hannah Walters, Thorne, Barantini, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner and Nina Wolarsky. Producer is Jo Johnson.
