STAYING PUT – Luke Molyneux signs new three-year deal

Must read

We are delighted to confirm that Luke Molyneux has signed a new three-year contract with the club.

The forward, who has made 102 appearances for Rovers since joining in 2022, has committed his future to the club until the summer of 2027.

Molyneux’s new contract comes after he played a pivotal role in Rovers’ incredible finish to the 2023/24 season which saw him net five goals and make three assists in the final eight matches of the campaign.

The 26-year-old scored 11 goals and made ten assists during the season and turned down interest from higher in the pyramid to remain at the Eco-Power Stadium.

Molyneux said: “I’m buzzing to be here and re-sign. I’ve been in constant contact with the gaffer and Cliff and I’m happy to finally get it done.

“You see how good we were at the end of the season. We’ve definitely got that to go again next year and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens.

“I’m here to get this club back to where it should be.”

Molyneux came through the ranks at Sunderland and made a big impact after joining fellow north east side Hartlepool United, who he helped secure promotion to the EFL in 2021 before joining Rovers a year later.

Rovers manager Grant McCann said: “I’m really, really pleased with this one. I think it’s a fantastic signing for the football club.

“Mols has been tremendous since I’ve been here – not just with what he does on the football pitch. He trains well, he’s a good person to have around the place.

“The boys love him, the fans love him and I think this is a great piece of business for us.”
