Star Wars legend Angus MacInnes has died aged 77.
The actor, best known for his role as Jon ‘Dutch‘ Vander in the first film, died ‘peacefully’ surrounded by his family on December 23.
His family wrote on his facebook page in a statement: ‘To all Angus’ fans around the world, with breaking hearts we write this:
‘Angus MacInnes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and actor died on 23rd of December 2024. He left us peacefully, surrounded by his family and love.
‘Angus’ career spanned decades, with unforgettable roles in films such as Star Wars: A New Hope (as Gold Leader, Jon “Dutch” Vander), Witness, Judge Dredd, Captain Phillips, and many others.
‘His work touched countless lives, and he took great pride in being part of these stories that continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.

Fans and friends of Angus’ have rushed to the comments to send their condolences and share memories of meeting the Star Wars icon following the sad news.
They wrote: ‘I had the privilege of getting to know Angus personally, for which I am very grateful. RIP Goldleader’;
‘So sorry for your loss. I had the honor of meeting him back in 2002 or so and often interacted on his posts. He was very kind. I will raise a glass to Gold Leader, on his wing;’

Angus was born in 1947 in Ontario, Canada and was also known for his roles in other famous Hollywood films.
Some of his most famous roles included Witness, which also starred Harrison Ford, and the 2004 movie Hellboy.
The actor also portrayed former hockey great Jean “Rosey” LaRose in the comedy Strange Brew.
