A major highway improvement scheme has got under way in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The £600,000 scheme for the A519 Brook Lane is expected to take about eight weeks to complete, according to Staffordshire County Council.
The authority said the scheme would include reconstruction and resurfacing of the road as well as repairs and replacement of damaged kerbs and drainage.
The council said there would be temporary lane closures and some overnight closures during the work.
It formed part of a wider £50m investment in Staffordshire’s roads over the next three years, the authority said.
“Good roads are essential for people and for our local economy,” said cabinet member for strategic highways, Mark Deaville.
“As always, our crews will be doing their best to keep disruption to a minimum, which will include doing the resurfacing overnight when the road is quieter.
“I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience while this important work takes place.”
Simon Tagg, leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, added: “Brook Lane is one of the main roads in and out of the town centre, so it’s an important scheme for the borough.
“These long-awaited improvements will be welcomed by everyone who uses the road and once completed, we can look forward to smoother journeys into town.”
