Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are officially engaged! The multi-hyphenate posted sweet pics documenting the milestone on Instagram, which reveal the couple’s romantic picnic complete with Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizzas (side note: need this for my own engagement).
Of course, Sel included a pic of her stunning ring as they took their relationship to the next level. “forever begins now..” she captioned her post.
The news prompted Sel and Benny’s A-list friends to show some love and congratulate them in the comments section. “Ahhhhhhhh yes yes yes!! Best news ever. Couldn’t be more happy for you both ❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Lily Collins wrote, while Sel’s longtime friend Taylor Swift made a legit offer to be their flower girl. Cardi B also expressed her shock at Sel’s rock, writing, “Waiiiitttt hold on 😱😱😱😱😱❤️❤️❤️.”
Speaking of her ring, it happens to be a marquise diamond—the same shape she references in her 2015 hit, “Good For You”—on a paved band. According to the VP of Merchandising at Jared Jewelers Ann Grimmett, marquise diamonds are ~rare~ these days (pun very much intended).
“Selena Gomez’s engagement ring is fitting for a talent as rare as hers, given less than five percent of diamonds are marquise,” Grimmett writes in a statement to Cosmo. She adds, “The shape represents that what’s old is new again, with a history dating back to the 18th century, but also represents the trend to elongated fancies that we have seen growing rapidly over the past few years.”
In light of Sel’s engagement, searches for “marquise engagement ring” shot to more than double their average volume in December 2024, per Google Trends. No surprise there!
Chris Pleines, founder of Datingscout.com, echoes Grimmett’s findings in a separate statement. “The marquise engagement ring has always been a rarer, elegant, and stunning statement cut,” Pleines says, “and with a star like Selena opting for a marquise, it may well become as mainstream as styles such as the halo engagement ring, which we see celebrities such as Cardi B and Penelope Cruz wearing.”
While the exact jeweler of Sel’s ring hasn’t been disclosed yet, Grimmett estimated how many carats the Rare Beauty founder’s ring is—and how much it costs. (Spoiler alert: It’s $$$$$$).
“Considering the large center in an eternity setting, we estimate this to be about 6 carats and the value would be around $225,000,” Grimmett shares.
Yep, Selena’s ring is worth six figures, but her love story with Benny? That’s priceless.
