Sophie Turner has opened up about her ‘beautiful relationship’ with ex Joe Jonas, as she admitted their divorce was ‘incredibly sad’.

The actress, 28, married the Jonas Brothers singer, 35, in 2019 and the pair share two children, daughters Willa, four, and Delphine, two.

The couple finalised their divorce in September, a little over a year after Joe filed for separation.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Sophie revealed she couldn’t talk much about the divorce for legal reasons, but admitted it had been ‘hard’.

She said: ‘I’m going through a legal process right now where I can’t really say much, but it was incredibly sad. We had a beautiful relationship, and it was hard.’

Their divorce sparked a gender row after sources claimed Sophie had been partying while Joe looked after their two children – with fans slamming the reports as ‘mum-shaming’

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar on Tuesday about travelling for work – she has been filming several projects, including her latest hit Joan – Sophie said she hopes her daughters will see she is a ‘hard-working mum’ and is ‘doing everything for them’.

‘I want them to see me having a social life and enjoying work and thriving in my career and relationships,’ she said.

‘I want them to see a hard-working mum. I’ll come back and say, “This is why Mummy was away – it’s because she’s doing this for you, so Father Christmas can come with a big bundle of presents”.’

In the wake of news about their break-up, TMZ reported that Sophie ‘liked to party’, which caused a clash with Joe, who was said to be more of a homebody and stays with their children.

After a statement on the split was released, insiders said: ‘She likes to party and he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles’, after which various videos have been unearthed showing Sophie out on the town.

Enraged fans spoke out that praise of Joe’s parenting was ‘tired and unoriginal’ as men have to do ‘the bare minimum’ to be lauded, while Sophie would receive no recognition if she was the sole caregiver.

The ex-couple’s divorce proceedings were delayed by intense conflict with the two in regards to the custody agreements for their children.

Before the breakdown of their marriage, Sophie, who hails from Northampton, and her ex-husband Joe, 35, had been living in America with their two daughters but she was desperate to move back to the UK.

Lifting the lid on the homesickness she felt, the Joan star said: ‘Every city we ended up in, the first thing I’d do was find a British shop and stock up on a month’s worth of chocolate…’

Sophie revealed gun violence and changes to laws in the US were a key motivator in her wanting to return home.

She continued: ‘The gun violence, Roe v Wade being overturned… Everything just kind of piled on.’

Of her return she said: ‘I’m so happy to be back. It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England.

‘I just never really feel like myself when I’m not in London, with my friends and family. I was away for so long – six years – and it was when my friends were getting engaged, and when I got pregnant.

‘I went for dinner with someone the other day, and she said, “I never got to touch your belly.” We didn’t have those key experiences with each other.’
