Despite Sonos’ recent high-profile struggles, the multi-room audio specialist is gearing up for a significant product launch, with your living room in mind.
The Verge reports that the Santa Barbara-based brand is in the final stages of developing a new flagship soundbar, codenamed ‘Lasso’, which is set to surpass the capabilities of the already highly-regarded Sonos Arc.
The Lasso soundbar, which is reportedly in limited beta testing, closely resembles the Sonos Arc, albeit with only a limited snapshot of small section of the new speaker to go on.
However, significant internal upgrades should set it apart from the current flagship.
According to the report, Lasso features overhauled components and advanced speaker drivers, potentially driving the price above $1,200.
A standout feature of Lasso is the integration of technology from Mayht, a Dutch startup acquired by Sonos in 2022 for $100 million.
Mayht’s revolutionary approach to audio transducers is said to to deliver superior sound quality in a more compact and lightweight form.
Sonos aims for Lasso to deliver an exceptional home theater experience, with enhancements expected in bass performance and overall audio immersion, possibly without the need for an extra subwoofer.
Unlike the Arc, which works better with an additional Sub or Sub Mini for optimal bass, Lasso is designed to provide top-tier sound independently.
The leaked images suggest the inclusion of a Bluetooth button, indicating support for Bluetooth audio playback, which would be a first for Sonos soundbars, although the likes of the Move 2 and the Era 100 already offer this.
As you’d expect the new soundbar will support Sonos’ Ace headphones for private listening with spatial audio.
HDMI and Ethernet ports are also visible in the leaked images, and the new soundbar is set to go live in the coming months.
