Tottenham’s Son Heung-min says he’s fully committed to the club and has full faith in manager Ange Postecoglou’s ability to deliver success.
The Aussie tactician, despite a promising start to the season, will miss out on a top four finish as his first year in north London draws to a close. The deciding blow came after their loss to Manchester City, further dampening the mood at Tuesday night’s game amidst a torrent of objections.
Postecoglou candidly highlighted the “fragile” bedrock of the Spurs squad and dismissed talks of them intentionally losing against Man City just to stop rivals Arsenal from clinching the league title. He stood up for one supporter in the crowd, with Son echoing his stance.
In an interview with the Evening Standard, Son stated, “We should understand it’s the gaffer’s first year and he brought so much positivity and different football. I know it’s early to say, but we’ve got to do so much better for next season, because I still believe he can bring so much success to the club.
“I’m all in. I’m loving the way he wants to play. It’s the first time I’ve experienced it. Everybody – the club, the players, also the fans – everybody has to step up, because we have to be all together in this. He’s definitely shown he can bring success to the club.”
While Son has risen to the challenge following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich last summer, he missed a crucial late opportunity in their 2-0 defeat against City.
The Tottenham captain revealed, “As players, we all wanted to do our best for the club and for us [against City]. We really didn’t care about anything else. We only concentrated on what was best for us, for the team. The players, the staff who have had so many sessions, so many games, so much travelling, we just wanted to do the best for them. We didn’t want to do anything else.”

The North London side have endured a barren spell since their last trophy win in 2008, with previous managers Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte having criticized the squad’s mentality. Postecoglou implied recent events further unveiled concerning aspects within the club.
“I think the last 48 hours have revealed to me the foundations are fairly fragile,” expressed the manager. “That’s what I feel. The last 48 hours has revealed a fair bit to me. That’s alright, that just means I’ve got to go back to the drawing board with some things. Outside [the club], inside. It’s been an interesting exercise.”
