Gurgaon: As the city sizzles amid intense heatwave conditions, several upscale societies are grappling with prolonged outages, causing significant discomfort to residents. In Vatika India Next, there was a nine-hour outage that started at 3pm on Sunday. Similarly, in Sector 79’s Mapsko Mountville, the power supply was cut off around 10pm and only restored at 8am on Monday. Mayfield Gardens also experienced outage from 11pm on Sunday till around 6am on Monday.Residents complained that they have been facing frequent power disruptions for the past 2-3 days due to an increase in demand for which the infrastructure is not up to the mark.Dharamvir Yadav, a resident of Mayfield Gardens, said, “We had a sleepless night as there was frequent tripping and prolonged power failure. On Monday, there were outages twice. The inverter battery also ran out. While power demand is increasing, the infrastructure is getting overloaded, resulting in malfunctions. If this is the situation now, we fear how we will survive the entire summer.”Highrise societies along Dwarka Expressway are also experiencing frequent tripping and outages, forcing people to rely on diesel generators, which adds to their financial burden. In some societies, developers have not built the necessary power infrastructure, such as a 33 kV substation, resulting in frequent power failures due to shared feeder supply. In some areas power backup was also not working. Some residents were forced to seek refuge with friends or at hotels.Ravinder Dutt, a resident of Raheja Navodaya, explained that the society still relies on a temporary power connection. “At a time when the temperature is so high, it becomes really difficult. There was a failure in grid supply, and even the DG set was running under capacity. ,” he said.A resident of Raheja Navodaya said, “There was no electricity last night, and I had to go to my friend’s home in DLF3 to sleep.”“Since our township is on a rural feeder, there is frequent tripping. Even after seven years, the developer has not built the 33 kV substation,” said Lokesh Yadav, a resident of Vatika India Next.Sumit Duggal, RWA president of Mapsko Mountville, said, “More than 60 hours of outage in the last 15 days, and 7,000L of diesel have been consumed. Whenever a fault arises after 9pm, it only gets repaired the next morning after the DHBVN office opens.”According to DHBVN officials, a malfunction in the transformer at the 220 kV power station in Sector 72 was the root cause, triggering disruptions at the 66 kV power stations in sectors 47 and 51. A similar fault occurred at the 220 kV power station in Daultabad, disturbing the power supply in substations in Harsaru and Farrukhnagar.“Apart from local faults, there has been no major issue, and we have ample supply. The problem has been rectified,” said Shyambir Saini, superintendent engineer of DHBVN (circle-1).
