Arne Slot has officially begun work as Liverpool’s new manager having taken over from Jurgen Klopp, though the Dutchman is still building up his coaching staff
Arne Slot has confirmed that Fabian Otte will be joining his coaching staff in a further break from Jurgen Klopp ‘s time as manager.
Slot was officially unveiled as Liverpool’s new boss on Tuesday evening, with Klopp having left his role at the end of last season. The German was followed out of the door by the majority of his coaching staff.
Assistant Pepijn Lijnders has taken over as Red Bull Salzburg manager, with Klopp’s elite development coach Vitor Matos becoming his number two. Peter Krawietz, Jack Robinson, Andreas Kornmayer and Andreas Schlumberger have all also departed.
Slot had already announced replacements for most of those men, though head of goalkeeping John Achterberg also joined his assistant Robinson in leaving. Achterberg will move to Al-Ettifaq, where Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is manager.
Until now, Slot had not revealed who will take over from Acherberg from his arrival. The new Reds boss has now made his move, with Otte confirmed as the new head of goalkeeping at Anfield.
Otte joins Sipke Hulshoff (assistant head coach) and Ruben Peeters (lead physical performance coach) as Slot’s trusted staff. He has experience of the Premier League, having previously served as Burnley’s assistant goalkeeping coach.
He is currently with the US national team, having only joined them in January. But Slot has revealed that Otte will arrive on Merseyside following the conclusion of the Copa America, which the US is hosting.

“You want to take some people with you as well because they know who you are, they know your playing style and they can translate this to the other people in the staff as well. But if you go to a club like Liverpool, you can assume that there are a lot of good people working here as well,” he said.
“So, we are going to use hopefully the best of both worlds to implement a few things from us and to use the knowledge that is inside this club already because of the nine years Jürgen and his staff worked here.
“I bring in Sipke Hulshoff, who’s been my assistant for a few years now at Feyenoord. Because we work together for such a long time, I think the both of us know exactly what we want when it comes to game model, playing style – and I think that helps.
Then we will bring in a performance coach, Ruben Peeters, who is going to help me and the club with the way we are working on the physical side. Us three have worked together at Feyenoord for three years now and we know how we want to work, which is normal.
“And then there’s a replacement in the goalkeeping staff as well – we’ve brought in Fabian Otte, who was working at Borussia Monchengladbach and is still now with the USA team at the Copa America. So those are the first positions we filled in and I think we are still looking for one or two other positions.”
