Sky News goes off air after worldwide tech outage linked to Microsoft Windows as airlines are grounded and banks and IT firms hit across the globe

Sky News is currently off air, after worldwide tech outages are linked to Microsoft Windows as a corrupt anti-viral update causes banks, IT firms and airlines to crash. 

It is understood a flawed anti-viral update from the US cyber security company CrowdStrike has forced many companies globally into crisis. 

Major broadcasters SBS, Network 10, the ABC and Sky News Australia and Sky News UK have all had to go off air following the incident. 

In the UK this morning viewers were left with a static message apologising for the ‘disruption’ to the service at 6am when broadcasting was meant to begin. 

It read: ‘We apologise for the interuption to this broadcast. We hope to restore the transmission of Sky News shortly.’ 

Microsoft has posted on its social media account that is was ‘investigating an issue impacting users ability to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services’.

Microsoft users around the world have taken to social media to express their frustration and confusion at their computers also shutting down.

The broadcaster is currently playing an old Windrush documentary, as the channel remains off air.
