Singtel builds growth engine with infrastructure assets

Singtel created a subsidiary called Digital InfraCo in June 2023 to house its infrastructure assets, including data centres, submarine cables, satellites, and the Paragon 5G MEC aggregation and orchestration platform, as part of its growth strategy. Bill Chang, CEO of Singtel Digital InfraCo, explains that the new business is looking to drive growth by engaging with new customers, including hyperscalers, over-the-top service providers, other carriers and enterprises. It is also attracting new investment, as KKR recently acquired a 20% stake in the regional data center business for $1.1 billion. The Paragon platform is another growth driver that Chang says was designed “to ensure that carriers don’t get commoditized in a 5G world.” Digital InfraCo is already working with operators outside Singtel’s footprint on Paragon implementations. Chang describes the platform as an app store for 5G networks that allows operators to monetize their networks, edge computing and public cloud.
