Si King issues update on future of Hairy Bikers months after death of Dave Myers

Must read

The Hairy Bikers star Si King has opened up about the future of the BBC series and admitted that he will “start another journey” as he begins to think about his next career move.

Myers was diagnosed with cancer two years ago but he made the decision not to go public with what kind of cancer it was.

He returned to screens for one last instalment of The Hairy Bikers where he admitted to King it was a “dream” to be back on his motorbike after fearing the illness would’ve made it impossible previously.

Following his death, King took a step back from TV appearances to grieve the loss of his best friend but has since admitted there won’t be any more series of the Hairy Bikers.

The TV star has recently revealed he has started to “think about what I want to do” and told The Observer: “There’s obviously the sense of losing your best mate. But there’s also a sense of loss in that the experiences we had together can’t go on.

“So to be presented at my age with the question of what you really want to do is very difficult. We were a partnership, a double act.”

King also noted that Myers “absolutely embraced every moment” and was an overwhelmingly positive character, who “just loved being a Hairy Biker”.

His comments come after he returned to work for the first time and was met with delighted audiences as he made an appearance at the Good Food Show Summer in Birmingham’s NEC.

He was joined on stage by culinary star Gennaro Contaldo, TV presenter Chris Bavin, and recipe book author Chris Baber.

The 57-year-old put on a brave face as he signed copies of their book, The Hairy Bikers’ Ultimate Comfort Food, telling fans that it was great to see people of all ages enjoying the collection of recipes.

He posted snaps from the event, including one of him standing on stage in front of a huge crowd. “Thanks for having me @goodfoodshows!” he penned.

Many who attended and his other fans were quick to comment, as one noted: “So nice to see you yesterday, big love. Hope to see you very soon.”

“Your strength is amazing you keep going friend, met u both many times, inspiration to me,” another added before a third said: “Good to see you doing what you do best. Still just want to give you a hug after the loss of Dave.”

“You are doing amazing Si. In quiet moments it must be hard for you, but you are doing a cracking job,” a fourth expressed before someone else penned: “Great to see you in the big kitchen, please keep it up!!”

King was the first to release a statement on Myers’ death and penned: “Hi everyone, I’m afraid I bear some sad news. Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years.

“Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.

“Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.

“I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.” (sic)
