A second rally will be held in Erdington High Street this weekend after four people – including a pregnant woman and a child – were allegedly racially abused and assaulted. More than a 100 people turned out for the first protest in the high street on Saturday, June 1.
It came after four men, aged between 22 and 34, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and racially aggravated assaults. Police told BirminghamLive today, Thursday, June 6, that a fifth person had also been detained.
All five remained on bail while officers carried out further enquires. West Midlands Police said its probe into the alleged violent disorder and racially aggravated assaults on May 17 was “progressing well”.

The incident allegedly saw four people – a pregnant woman, another woman, a man, and a teenage boy – attacked. The next protest is due to be held on Saturday, June 8.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said this afternoon: “We’re aware of a demonstration that is due to take place on Erdington High Street this weekend, and have been in touch with the organisers to understand their plans. It follows disorder on May 17 where four people – a pregnant woman, another woman, a man, and a teenage boy – were attacked.
“Our investigation into the violent disorder and racially aggravated assaults is progressing well, and five people who have been arrested remain on bail while we continue to gather evidence. We know the attack has caused real concern locally, and we are in touch with community representatives to listen to them and update them.
“Our officers have been liaising with the community to listen to their concerns, and that dialogue will continue.”
