SDCC 2024: Star Trek Starfleet Academy Casts Voyager, Discovery Stars

Must read

Star Trek‘s latest show, Starfleet Academy, has gone on an absolute casting tear lately, as it recruits big names for new faces, mysterious villains, and plenty of its young new cadets. But it turns out it’s not done casting yet, and it’s bringing along some famous Star Trek stars for the ride too.

Announced as part of Star Trek‘s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con today, Starfleet Academy will see Discovery‘s Tig Notaro, Mary Wiseman, and Oded Fehr reprise their roles as Engineer Jet Reno, Lieutenant Tilly, and Admiral Vance for the 31st century series about training a new generation of would-be Starfleet officers. But they’ll also be joined by an extra Trek stalwart: Robert Picardo will reprise his role as Star Trek: Voyager‘s iconic, acerbic holographic doctor, fresh off of his recent reprisal of the role in season two of Star Trek: Prodigy. Notaro and Picardo will appear as series regulars, while Wiseman and Fehr will appear as guest stars.

Although no footage from the series was revealed–production is set to begin next month—the panel celebrated casting its young cadets with a sweet video showing the reactions of stars Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner the first time they heard from series showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau that they had landed roles in the series. Check it out below!

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which also stars Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, and Gina Yashere, is expected to release on Paramount+ sometime next year.
