Scotland fans beg Steve Clarke to call on uncapped star to replace Ben Doak

Must read

SCOTLAND’s injury curse struck again tonight as Ben Doak was named as the latest star who has been ruled out of Euro 2024.

The Liverpool wonderkid, 18, was an exciting inclusion in Steve Clarke‘s provisional squad when he was named in the 28-man list ahead of the tournament.

But the former Celtic youngster joined Lyndon Dykes on the treatment table after also suffering a knock in training, forcing him to miss Monday’s 2-0 friendly win over Gibraltar.

It was hoped that Doak’s latest setback wasn’t anything too serious and that he would return in time for the big kick off against the hosts on June 14.

But the rising star will now need to wait for his first international cap after the national team confirmed he has left the camp following his injury.

Clarke has drafted in Tommy Conway to replace fellow crocked star Dykes to add options in attack.

But now fans are hoping Clarke calls on another player to join the team in Doak’s place too.

Following the arrival of Bristol City ace Conway, Clarke now has 27 stars in his squad and will need to break the news to at least one of them that they won’t be on the plane to Germany.

It will likely be one of his four goalkeepers who is on the receiving end, but some fans have urged the head coach to make room for another star too.

Many punters have taken to social media to tell the manager who should get the nod to replace Doak, taking him back to his original total of 28 stars.

Ryan Fraser has been touted as a potential option, but several believe it should be an uncapped player who is more deserving of a place.

And that is Kilmarnock winger Danny Armstrong, who was a standout performer for Derek McInnes‘ side in the season just passed.

The 26-year-old wide-man is gearing up for his first taste of European action this summer after netting six times and providing 10 assists in the Premiership as Killie finished the campaign in fourth.

But several Scotland fans hope he will get the chance to test himself on the continent with the Tartan Army squad first.

One supporter has gone as far as saying that calling him up to replace Doak would be a “no brainer”.

Replying to the announcement regarding the teenager and Conway, one fan commented: “Danny Armstrong please.”

Another insisted: “Armstrong deserves a call up.”

Someone else pleaded with Clarke by saying: “Give Danny Armstrong a run out Stevie boy!”

While one other commented: “Get Armstrong called up for Doak.”
