Reports state that the event was held at the opulent St Regis Red Sea Resort during the inaugural Red Sea Fashion Week. Here the swimwear show featured an array of stylish one-piece swimsuits in elegant shades of red, beige, and blue. In a country where Muslim women were once required to wear body-covering burqas and abayas, these models with exposed shoulders and partially visible midriffs were a revolutionary sight.

The designer said that since the country’s population is very conservative, they have only featured elegant swimsuits that can represent the Arab world.

It seems the ‘BURKINI’ was not part of the show!!!

Only conservative women’s swimwear walked the ramp!

The designer was proud to be the first to showcase actual swimwear in the land that was once only known for restrictive BURQA fashion!!!

The fashion show was a splash hit in itself. Thankfully, it garnered excitement and praise from attendees and influencers alike. Reportedly a Syrian fashion influencer exclaimed, “It’s the first time to have a swimsuit fashion show in Saudi Arabia, but why not? Seriously, why not? It’s possible and we have it here.”

French influencer Raphael Simacourbe added, “That’s very brave of them to do that today, so I am very happy to be part of it.” Reports state that he emphasized that while the show might not seem risqué by Western standards, it represents a monumental achievement in the Saudi context.

Dive into Modernity: Prince MBS’s Message to the Muslim World

This fashion show sends a powerful message, particularly to burqa-clad fanatic Muslims worldwide. It shouts that Islam does not have to be synonymous with rigid fundamentalism. Currently, the world faces a large section of radical Muslims to whom  symbols like burqas, niqabs, and skull caps are absolutely essential. Why? They use these clothings to loudly proclaim their Islamic identity. Moreover, any Muslim who rejects these forms of dress is considered a heretic!

To such fanatic Muslims, the Saudi swimsuit fashion show is a slap in the face.

Consequently, this swimsuit fashion show is not just a display of fashion. It is a symbol of freedom in Islam. And it asks the Muslims around the world to embrace modern clothes without fear of persecution. Furthermore, it asks hardliners to drop the pretense of orthodox ideas to control the conversation on Islam. It is a bold statement of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to modernization and cultural openness. And is a subtle mocking of the ‘convertees’ in Islam who use clothes to suppress women.

Under the visionary leadership of Prince MBS, the kingdom is breaking away from its austere past and embracing a new future. Saudi Arabia is set to be a place where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously. This historic swimsuit event is a testament to Saudi Arabia’s evolving identity. It highlights how this nation aspires to be a beacon of progressive Islam in the modern world. So, let’s give a round of applause to Prince MBS for his refreshing plunge into modernity – proving that even in the desert, women’s swimwear can make quite a splash!
