Over 3,500 Saints supporters will be filling out the away end in Wigan in support of our teams, and the Club is encouraging fans to get to the ground early to back the Women’s side as they look to keep their winning run rolling in the Betfred Women’s Super League!

Last Saturday, the Saints Women secured an important away victory over Leeds Rhinos to firmly be in the fight for the top spot, which is currently held by the Warriors Women who have played one more league match than St.Helens though.

The First Team Saints are looking to shake off the last two results which were tight defeats, both by just two points, and get back to winning ways. However, it will be a very tough challenge heading over to the current league leaders with a number of senior Saints missing due to injury.

Head Coach Paul Wellens named an initial 20-man squad for Friday’s fixture, with Daryl Clark back in his selection after missing last week. Sione Mata’utia who was in the named 21-man squad for the game against Castleford but did not play will miss out due to a neck injury.

Moses Mbye on Monday was issued with a one-match penalty notice by the Match Review Panel which the Club appealed with the Operational Rules Tribunal on Tuesday evening but were unsuccessful in overturning, St.Helens appealed that decision from the ORT on Wednesday evening (10th July) and were once again unsuccessful.

Will Roberts has been added to complete the squad selection, marking his first inclusion in the senior 21-man declaration after becoming a First Team Saint this season.

The young half-back was flying during the 2023 season for the Saints Academy, being named in the opening two Lancashire Origin squads. Saints’ dual-registration partners Swinton Lions also handed Will his professional debut in June 2023 against Batley Bulldogs, but an injury halted his season.

Will has worked hard on his rehab alongside Agnatius Paasi and made his return to the field for the first time in almost a year with St.Helens Reserves in late April. Roberts has also been featuring for Swinton on loan too in recent weeks as well.

After making their senior Saints debuts last Friday night, Jake Burns and Jonny Vaughan retain their places in Wellens’ squad. If selected to play against Wigan, Will Roberts, Leon Cowen, and Harry Robertson would make their first official appearances for the Saints.
