Ruth Wilson said that Prince Andrew was “blindly walking to his own grave” in an interview that shook the Royal Family.
The actress, who plays the interviewer Emily Maitlis who held Andrew to account on TV screens across the globe, has recently finished filming the three-part Prime Video drama she’s made with Michael Sheen – A Very Royal Scandal.
To make sure she fit into the role, the Golden Globe actress spent time talking to Maitlis about the moment and her as a person.
In their chat, Wilson confirmed that she watched the interview four times as she thought the interview was a “fascinating character study” of the prince.
According to The Telegraph, Wilson told Maitlis: “I just found Andrew so lost. It’s such a fascinating character study of him. He was just walking blindly into his own sort of grave.”
Wilson then reportedly went on to say that the interview changed her perception of the monarchy.
She told Maitlis: “I think it made me think about entertainment. Royals as entertainment. News as entertainment. And the sort of coexistence of the BBC and the royals – journalism and the royals – actually it’s a symbiotic relationship.
“They need each other. And so I think it was the sort of connection of the two of those things.”
