Finland has boarded a Russian oil tanker that is suspected of “aggravated sabotage” after the breach of an undersea power cable linking the country to Estonia on Christmas Day.
The Estlink 2 submarine cable that carries electricity from Finland to Estonia was disconnected from the grid after a break that came just over a month after two telecommunications cables were severed in Swedish territorial waters in the Baltic Sea.
Finnish coast guards intercepted the Eagle S oil tanker, a vessel flying the flag of the Cook Islands in the South Pacific.
