Robbie Williams’ wife Ayda Field has shared a ‘shocking and difficult’ update to fans confirming her mother Gwen’s cervical cancer has returned.

The 45-year-old TV personality shared a set of photos of herself, and her family with her 73-year-old mother, who she called her ‘very best friend’, as she undergoes treatment.

The candid post – marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month – continued: ‘What you may not know, is that my best friend is currently fighting for her life.

‘A couple of months ago, my mother, a breast cancer survivor (and thriver) was given the news that her cervical cancer had come back and metastasized.

‘The news has been shocking and difficult for us all to privately process. She’s cried. I’ve cried. We’ve all cried together.

‘There have been many moments of deep sadness. And yet, also moments of profound beauty and joy, in very unexpected ways.

This is a battle. And what my mother has lost in hair and weight, she has more than gained in strength and bravery.

‘I am lucky to have such a warrior mummy showing me the way. And I have deep gratitude, that in this moment right now, she is here to fight another day.’

The screenstar concluded her post by standing in ‘solidarity’ with all those affected by cancer, adding she is ‘ready to fight back with you.’

‘F**k cancer,’ she wrote.

Messages of support have flooded the comments.

Stylist Rebecca Corbin Murray commented: ‘Sending love.’ TV host Gaby Roslin echoed: ‘Sending love and strength.’

Actor Rosie Fortescue wrote: ‘Oh Ayda thinking of you and your Mummy.’

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation said: ‘We know how deeply personal this disease is, and we’re so sorry to hear about your mom’s recurrence.

‘Our hearts go out to both of you during this challenging time. We’re here for you and your family and won’t stop until we put an end to breast cancer.’

‘Wish her fast recovery and sending hugs of best wishes and love,’ @gulhurgel wrote. And @robbie.williams.fan shared: ‘Sending strength to your lioness mother. she can win this. We love Gwen.’

This is not the first time the family has opened up about Gwen’s journey with cancer.

In 2020, Ayda – who has been married to the Take That singer, 50, for 14 years and shares four children – told fans that on top of Parkinson’s and Lupus, Gwen had also been diagnosed with stage 2 cervical cancer, made more difficult by lockdown restrictions.

She underwent ‘chemo and radiation daily as well as surgery’ to target this ‘aggressive tumour’ which had spread ‘outside the cervix’.

Robbie has also had to deal with his father’s deteriorating health after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a progressive brain disease that affects nerve cells.

Last year, his 73-year-old father, Pete Conway, was rushed to hospital after breaking a bone in his spine following a nasty fall.
