Roadworks begin on a main road in the Staffordshire Moorlands from Monday.
Staffordshire County Council said £360,000 is being spent on the A53 Buxton Road, Leek.
The work, expected to last six weeks, includes resurfacing the carriageway, which will mean temporary lane closures, as well as some overnight closures.
Damaged kerbs and drainage will be repaired and replaced. The works have been been timed to largely fit in with the school holidays when traffic should be lighter, the council said.
Access for businesses and residents in the works area will be maintained where possible.
County councillor Mark Deaville said Buxton Road was a “well-used route for people travelling in the town and through it.”
“I’m sure the resurfacing will be welcomed by all those who use the road,” he added.
