River Island’s £46 midi dress is a high street hero, says OK! fashion editor

Must read

If you thought you’d seen enough noughties fashion trends making a comeback to last you a lifetime, slinky slip dresses, baguette bags, low-rise jeans, and more recently capri pants (to name just a few) then stop right there as we’ve got another dose of fashion nostalgia for you….peplums!

They were big news at on the Bafta’s red carpet this year, as well as puffball skirts, and you’ll start to see them filtering through onto the high street for summer too. The 80’s 80-inspired silhouette is not only feminine and flirty but it also has a figure-enhancing quality too. The waisted-frill detail which usually falls slightly over the tum will not only emphasise your slimmest part (your waist), but it will also help to hide any lumps and bumps around the tum area. Hooray!

If you want to try the trend, without looking like an 80s throwback, of course, trust me when I say it’s easy and affordable. I’ve found the ultimate high street hero at River Island this week. The black shirred spot print midi dress, for £46 here is an absolute style steal and shoppers are already going crazy for it.

The cinched waist midi dress is a winner for summer- I’m not sure I have the time to list all the reasons why but if you’re anything like me and appreciate a dress that’ll work hard in your wardrobe then this flattering design certainly won’t disappoint.

The styling possibilities are endless and the elegant shape and modest length make it versatile for any occasion. Summer garden parties tick, country weddings tick, holidays tick, summer workwear tick- trust me when I say you’ll be reaching for this fabulous frock more than once.

Comprised of 100% cotton the peplum detailed dress is guaranteed to be cool when the warmer weather returns and curvy girls can rest assured the style will flatter your figure too.

Shirred detailing on the bodice allows for a comfy fit and some stretch if you have a larger bust, perfect for those who struggle to find dresses that fit a D+ cup. If you do need extra support up top, be sure to invest in a good strapless bra- the thin cami straps won’t hide thick bra straps, unfortunately.

Plus, if that wasn’t enough to pull at your purse strings there are two colourways available. Polka dots are back again for another summer and are a timeless purchase, however, white is always a good idea. Style it up with studded black ballet flats, £35 here for a monotone look otherwise wearing white with raffia accessories always looks chic! I love this classic basket bag from Mango for £49.99 here.

Need more midi dress inspiration- well a girl can never have too many after all. I’ve also found a few gems at M&S and Mango this week. You might recognise this pure cotton cami shift dress from the M&S ‘Anything But Ordinary’ advert and it now comes in a zesty shade of orange, for £39.50 here and this ribbed skater dress is another wardrobe staple for the season, for £39.50 here.

If you are searching for a summery style with sleeves? I recommend this Embroidered dress with cut-out detailing on the waist, from Mango for £89.99 here.
