Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged the Premier League to resolve the 115 charges Manchester City were slapped with last February
Rio Ferdinand has called on the Premier League to address Manchester City‘s 115 charges urgently.
The former Manchester United star expressed his concerns during the latest episode of the Vibe with FIVE podcast, following Manchester City’s triumph in securing their fourth consecutive league title after defeating West Ham 3-1.
Despite the celebrations, the shadow of alleged breaches between 2009 and 2018 looms large, with the club vehemently denying any wrongdoing. A hearing is reportedly set for later this year, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Ferdinand, while discussing the season’s close contest with co-host Joel Beya, acknowledged Arsenal’s commendable challenge but emphasised the necessity for the Premier League to resolve the charges swiftly.
“Arsenal put up a great fight and like you said, this is against the most dominant Premier League team we’ve ever seen, charges aside,” Ferdinand commented.
“We’ll wait to see what happens there, and you know what I’m not even bantering Man City about it, I think for football in general, the broadcasters, media, fans, and Man City players and staff and everyone connected to that club, there’s a cloud over football [and] Man City with these charges.”
In a call for swift action, Ferdinand encouraged the Premier League to “knuckle down” and sort out City’s predicament for the broader “betterment of the game”. He underlined: “The powers that be need to make sure that they finalise this as soon as possible, we’re seeing Everton and Nottingham Forest getting points deducted and I know it’s a less complex situation.”
“Two years since the charges first came out, they’ve won two Premier League’s since then. They’ve been allowed to win two Premier Leagues so the powers that be need to knuckle down and get this done for the good of the game and the betterment of the game.”
Out of the hefty 115 charges, 54 relate to City failing to provide accurate financial specifics, while 35 are attributed to the club’s failure to cooperate with the Premier League’s governing body.

A substantial 14 charges pertain to inaccuracies in disclosing player and manager payments with seven linked to contravening the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). The remaining five are allegedly violations of UEFA’s FFP regulations.
Manchester City reject all 115 claims against them and vow to vindicate their reputation.
