The gambling-related charges Patriots receiver Kayshon Boutte was facing have been dropped by the state of Louisiana, according to ESPN.

Boutte had been accused of placing underaged bets while playing college football at LSU. He was arrested in January and charged with underage gambling and computer fraud.

Between April 2022 and May 2023, Boutte, who was 20 at the time, placed many sports bets, according to investigators. Gamblers must be 21, so Boutte allegedly used an alias to make the bets.

Police said he made around 8,900 bets, including 17 wagers on NCAA football games, and six on LSU.

Boutte participated in Patriots offseason workouts and minicamp. When asked about Boutte’s status in May, coach Jerod Mayo said that the team would  “wait to hear from the league going forward,” according to Reiss.

Boutte, who was a sixth-round pick in last year’s NFL Draft, played in five games, catching two passes for 19 yards during his rookie season.

The Patriots have since drafted a pair of receivers and added KJ Osborn from the Vikings. With Demario Douglas, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kendrick Bourne, and others returning, there will be significant competition for roster spots among receivers during training camp.

Training camp is set to begin next Wednesday in Foxborough.
