Chocolate top: expert Sam Bilton will be at Cocoa Jones later this month

A group of businesses in Old Coulsdon have come together with a series of special, late-evening openings and extra-special offers in the hope of attracting extra customers to their parade of shops on Old Lodge Lane, with the next date coming up at the end of this month.

Reedham Village Lates is a monthly series of events hosted by shops close to Reedham Station.

On the last Thursday of each month, Steven Robertson Art, Tenpin Records, and Cocoa Jones Chocolate stay open late for visitors to enjoy art, vinyl records and craft chocolates.

This month’s event, on Thursday, June 27, features a talk from Sam Bilton, food historian and author of The Philosophy of Chocolate and host of the podcast Comfortably Hungry.

Bilton will discuss the history of chocolate, its cultural significance, and its modern industry from its sacred role in ancient South American culture to the multi-million pound global industry today.

“Along the way, we’ll be discussing whether chocolate’s reputation as an aphrodisiac is deserved and why anyone not working on a Sunday should raise a glass (and a half of milk) in thanks to Cadbury,” says the organisers.

The event is free, but on a first-come, first-served basis, starting at 7pm (scheduled to last until 8.30pm) at Cocoa Jones Chocolate, 2 Old Lodge Lane, CR8 4DG.
