1000-Lb Sisters star Amy Slaton has been arrested at a zoo, and is facing drug and child endangerment charges.
The 36-year-old – who fronts the hit TLC series with her sister, Tammy Slaton – was taken into custody yesterday, after a day out at the Tennessee zoo.
Deputies from the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department were responding to reports of a customer allegedly being bitten by a camel.
‘Upon arrival, deputies were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle,’ a Facebook post from the Sheriff’s Department read.
The account shared Slaton’s mugshot, along with Brian Scott Lovvorn, who was also in the vehicle.
According to the post, they were both arrested and taken to Crockett County Jail, and face charges of illegal possession of schedule I, illegal possession of schedule IV and two counts of child endangerment.
‘The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence,’ the post concluded.
‘The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.’
Officials have not shared any further details on the reports of the camel bite, or identified who – if anyone – was injured.
Slaton has not spoken publicly over the reports, or been active on social media since the news broke.
The reality star first stepped into the public eye on 1000-Lb Sisters, with the TLC series focusing on her weight loss efforts with her sibling.
During filming, she has welcomed two children, Gage and Glenn, with former partner Michael Halterman – who filed for divorce last March after around four years of marriage.
Speaking to People Magazine in December, she looked back over the end of her marriage and revealed that her mental health was ‘the worst it’s ever been’.
‘It wasn’t just affecting me, it was affecting Gage and Glenn. So it was just rough,’ she told the outlet, explaining that she then turned to therapy.
‘I try to be there for them as much as possible,’ she added of her sons. ‘If they ain’t at Daddy’s, they’re with me. I know my mama couldn’t always do that.
‘I want them to learn how to be good guys. I want them to learn as much as they can, soak up all that knowledge. I don’t want them to be on the streets one day. I want them to actually be contributing members of society.’
