Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund has given his thoughts on the club’s decision to keep manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman was believed to be facing the sack at Old Trafford prior to United’s FA Cup final triumph over derby rivals Man City with the Red Devils carrying out a performance review at the end of the season.

United held talks with other managers but it was ultimately decided that Ten Hag would stay on and 54-year-old is now on the verge of signing a new contract.

Speaking to journalist Florian Plettenberg following Denmark’s Euro 2024 exit, Hojlund said: ‘very happy (that Ten Hag is staying), he’s a very good coach.

‘I loved to work with him this year and I’m looking forward to many more.’

Ten Hag pushed for United to sign Hojlund last summer with the club agreeing a fee of £72m with Atalanta for his services.

The 21-year-old scored 16 goals in 43 appearances in his debut campaign but struggled for long periods.

Looking ahead to the new season, Hojlund said: ‘I want to become even better and score even more goals, hopefully we can win another trophy.’

United are reportedly ‘seriously considering’ a move to sign Matthijs de Ligt this summer and Hojlund was also asked about the potential transfer.

He said: ‘that has nothing to do with me, I can’t answer that question but he is a good defender.’

De Ligt arrived at Bayern Munich in a £68m deal in 2022 but was limited to just 16 league starts last season as they failed to win the league for the first time in over a decade.
