Quincy Jones’ cause of death has reportedly been confirmed after he died at the age of 91.
The iconic music producer and composer died earlier this month, with his family – including daughter Rashida Jones – confirming the sad news in a statement.
Fellow legends flooding social media with heartfelt tributes, with Sir Paul McCartney, Will Smith, Sir Michael Caine and Abbott Elementary’s Sheryl Lee Ralph among them.
TMZ reports that his cause of death has been revealed as cancer.
According to a death certificate obtained by the outlet, he died as a result of pancreatic cancer, and there were reportedly no other contributing factors.
Quincy’s loved ones broke the news of his death on November 3, issuing a joint message which read: ‘Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing.
‘And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.’
Actress Rashida later posted a throwback picture on social media, with the lengthy caption: ‘My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life. He kept “jazz hours” starting in high school and never looked back.
‘When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music). He would never send me back to bed.
‘He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work…there was no safer place in the world for me.’
‘He was a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius,’ she continued. ‘All accurate descriptions of my father but his music (and ALL of his work) was a channel for his love. He WAS love.
‘He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen. That’s his legacy.
‘I was fortunate enough to experience this love in close proximity. I’ll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.’
Grammy-winner Quincy is known for many credits over his decades-long career, and worked with titans including Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles during that time.
He is considered one of the greatest minds in music and TV history – he produced Michael’s Thriller album in 1992, while also getting in the studio with Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer and so many more.
As well as records, he scored dozens of films including The Italian Job and The Color Purple, while founding his own production company which created Will Smith’s series, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Will penned a heartfelt tribute to Quincy on Instagram, sharing a picture from the Fresh Prince set.
‘Quincy Jones is the true definition of a Mentor, a Father and a Friend,’ he wrote. ‘He pointed me toward the greatest parts of myself. He defended me. He nurtured me. He encouraged me. He inspired me.
‘He checked me when he needed to. He let me use his wings until mine were strong enough to fly.’
Sir Michael also added: ‘My Celestial twin Quincy was a titan in the musical world. He was a wonderful and unique human being, lucky to have known him.’
