Putin night of horror as Ukraine drone blitz destroys airbase and rebels strike

A major Russian military airbase has been set ablaze after a devastating overnight attack by Ukrainian drones.

Ukraine‘s army launched another drone blitz on Russia in the early hours of Saturday morning, once again targeting the Rostov region in the south.

The region’s governor claimed Russian air defences had shot down 26 Ukrainian UAVs during the night.

However, some managed to make it through to strike their targets with lethal consequences.

Drones bombed the Millerovo airfield, causing a massive fire to break out that could be seen from miles away.

Video footage shows a raging inferno engulfing the base and thick black smoke billowing skywards.

Locals reported hearing more than 16 explosions and said there were fires on the runway and at the airplane parking lot.

There were also reports of a major fire near an oil depot not far from the military base.

The base is home to the 31st Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment which has two squadrons of Sukhoi Su-30SM, that are used to attack Ukraine.

The Millerovo airfield was targeted earlier in the war when a transport aircraft was destroyed.

Currently, there are no confirmed reports of any casualties or the extent of the damage caused by the attack.

Russian partisans also staged a daring attack on a military airbase in Perm, over 900 miles from the border with Ukraine.

The rebels, who are affiliated to the Legion of Free Region battalion that is fighting for Ukraine, filmed their raid on the airbase in Bolshoye Savino.

Video images show them setting light to military equipment at the base, which burst into balls of flames.

In one of the pictures, it appears they succeeded in setting a fighter jet alight, although as yet there is no confirmation of what was destroyed.

Previously the Legion has told the Express it uses intelligence provided by their network of partisans to help plan their raids across the border.
