PSA: Microsoft Is Discontinuing The Xbox Game Pass Mobile App In November

Must read

Xbox’s September 2024 update is quite a biggie, with features like game update preloads coming as a handy new feature for the next console update. However, as part of today’s news, Microsoft has also announced that it plans to shut down the Xbox Game Pass mobile app.

Starting in November 2024, when new downloads of the Game Pass app will no longer be possible, Microsoft will be “streamlining the mobile app experience”. As a result, Xbox Game Pass app features, such as library browsing and membership management, will move over to the main Xbox mobile app.

“Key features – like the ability to explore Game Pass and manage your membership – will now be found in one place with the Xbox app on mobile. You’ll be able to browse the full Game Pass catalog to find your favorite games and stay in the loop with alerts for new games coming to the service.

If you’re a Game Pass Ultimate member, you’ll also be able to view and claim your Perks. As part of these changes, we will no longer support new downloads of the Xbox Game Pass app, starting in November.”

As long as Microsoft successfully squeezes all of these Game Pass features into the Xbox mobile app, we think this is a good move – it certainly makes things less confusing for the general user. It perhaps marks less of a Game Pass focus over on mobile, but still, we don’t really think Microsoft needed two separate apps for the service – as long as all of the relevant features soon appear in the main Xbox app.
