THE MUMBAI police are on the lookout for three persons who allegedly duped several Mumbai youngsters of Rs 33 lakh by taking money from them under various pretexts including the promise of a job in the Navy.
The complainant in the case is the father of a woman who was duped by the accused by promising her a job as a draughtsman in the Indian Navy. The complainant who works in a shipping company said that around 2016, he became known to one Shekhar Mishra who would come to the complainant’s Andheri based company to meet his friends.
The complainant said that in 2020, he received a call from Mishra that there were several openings for the post of draughtsman the Indian Navy and that he knew a police officer who can help his candidates secure the jobs. He asked the complainant if he was aware of anyone being interested in the job.
The complainant provided names of three persons and also asked if his daughter could get a job with the Navy. Mishra told him that for Rs 1.5 lakh, he could get her the job.
Over the next two years a total of 13 youngsters including the complainant’s daughter paid Rs 33.30 lakh to Mishra, Rahul Singh, Nitish Kashyap and two others who claimed to have contacts in the Indian Navy. From 2023 onwards, when they were asked about the jobs, the accused kept telling the 13 youngsters that they would soon be contacted by the Indian Navy.
Eventually when nothing happened this past month and the phones of the three accused were found switched off, the complainant approached Ghatkopar police following which an FIR was registered against the three accused on Wednesday. An officer said that they are tracking the three accused and should be able to make arrests soon.
