Princess Kate Has Been Spotted in Public for the First Time Since Her Cancer Announcement

Must read

It’s been months since the Princess of Wales has been seen in public—and even longer since she carried out an official royal engagement. Now, multiple outlets have reported that Princess Kate was spotted spending time with her family.

Sources told People and Us Weekly that the royal was recently out and about with her family, including kids Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. Although there are currently no known photos or videos of the sighting, the reports mark the first time Kate has been seen in the public since she announced her cancer diagnosis in March.

Kate’s last public sighting was in mid-March, when she and husband Prince William were filmed leaving a farm shop near their Windsor residence. The last time she completed an official royal engagement was in December, when she joined the royal family for the traditional walk to Christmas morning service on the Sandringham estate.

The princess postponed further public engagements in January, when she underwent an unspecified abdominal surgery. Kensington Palace initially announced that Kate would be recuperating from the operation for the next three months, but her unexpected cancer diagnosis has kept her from returning to public duties beyond that time frame.

Kate announced the shocking health news in a personal video message released on March 22.

“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family,” she said in the clip. “As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I’m going to be okay. As I’ve said to them, I am well, and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal, in my mind, body, and spirits.”

While the palace has not announced the type of cancer she has or what stage the disease has progressed to, Kate said she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy to treat her condition. There have been no official updates on the princess’s health since her video announcement, but William recently said in passing that she is “doing well.”

“The princess will return to official duties when she is cleared to do so by her medical team,” a palace insider told Bazaar in March. “She is in good spirits and is focused on making a full recovery.”
